ZENONIA 1 What Changed on PC
Identity kept, friction cut — dash, UI, shops, and the systems Com2us refused to delete.
The ZENONIA 1 Steam project is a restoration, not a reboot. The August 2026 dev interview is the primary source for what moved and what did not. This page is that interview turned into a player-facing list. If you want dates, use Steam launch. If you want how to play, use Getting Started.
What they kept (identity)
Story and characters. Class and growth structure. Equipment and skills. Good and evil. Hunger and weight. Day and night. Those are the sentences the team used. If a rumor says hunger is gone, it is wrong unless a later patch note explicitly removes it. Play food as real: hunger and weight. Play morality as real: alignment. Play three classes as the whole list: tier list.
The 40-hour claim, the hundreds of items, and the five-seal campaign are the original adventure wearing a PC HUD. Walkthrough and items assume that.
What they changed (friction)
Control schemes, UI readability, screen layout, settings. Keyboard, mouse, and full controller support. Damage numbers, hit effects, targeting indicators. Quick save. Equipment comparison. Batch equipment repair. Shop controls. Detailed audio sliders. Steam achievements. Expanded language support. Balance adjustments. Stability work.
The Next Fest demo taught them two audiences. Veterans asked for the double-tap dash and the afterimage. New players asked for quest guidance, readable UI, and combat information. The full version puts the original-style dash back (direction key twice) with the afterimage, and it keeps pushing HUD help. If you played the demo and thought dash felt wrong, that gap is one the team said they closed. Practice it using controls.
What they did not add
A fourth class. An online campaign. A modern dialogue wheel with eleven endings. A stated respec machine. Those absences matter as much as the QoL list. Plan your file with the comparison tool because you live with the click.
Nintendo Switch is a future platform statement, not a PC change. Do not expect a Steam Deck verification from this wiki; Steam listed Deck compatibility as unknown at the time of writing.
How this feels in the first hour
Ayles is still Ayles. You still buy food. You still repair. You now compare gear without squinting at a phone font, and you can batch repair instead of tapping every piece. You can quick save before a fork. You cannot quick save your way out of overweight. The restoration’s own words: they wanted to remove the friction that sat between you and the original fun, not the fun itself.
If you want a value judgment on whether that pitch works, read the review and run the demo. If you want a checklist of QoL to actually use, stay here:
- Bind dash and test the afterimage in a field.
- Turn on equipment comparison before the first shop.
- Batch repair before every seal.
- Quick save before Adonis story scenes.
- Use audio sliders if the chiptune loop is louder than 2009 nostalgia.
After launch
The team said they will keep listening. That is a promise to write future patch notes, not a promise this page already contains them. When Steam news posts a balance change, summarize it here and check whether the bosses page still matches. Until then, do not invent numbers.
