ZENONIA 1 Review
A 2008 action RPG restored for Steam — nostalgia with hunger, weight, and three classes intact.
ZENONIA 1 is not a new IP chasing live-service charts. It is Gamevil’s 2008 action RPG, the one that sat next to Zelda comparisons and iPhone “must-have” lists, brought back by Com2us Holdings and CFK as a Steam restoration. The question is not “is this the RPG of 2026?” The question is whether the original loop — three classes, five seals, hunger, weight, good and evil — still deserves a monitor and a controller.
This is an unofficial recommendation, not a Metacritic clone. Steam user reviews were still empty while the build sat on a coming-soon clock. Original iOS reception is the historical baseline: IGN 9.0, Pocket Gamer 8/10 with a Silver Award and a later Best Adventure/RPG nod, Slide to Play 4/4, GameRankings around 84 percent. Those scores were for a phone game that felt like a handheld RPG. The Steam project is trying to keep that feeling and remove the thumb-cramp UI.
The video in the middle of this page is a returning-player recap of the original, useful as a tone check if you never played Ayles in 2009.
Who should play it
Play it if you remember ZENONIA on iPhone, Android, DSiWare, or PSP and want the same story with readable numbers and a dash that feels like the old double-tap. Play it if you like pixel action RPGs that still ask you to eat and repair. Play it if three classes and two endings are enough structure for a 40-hour claim.
Skip it if you want a 2026 open-world checklist, if hunger systems make you close games, or if you need online features. This restoration is single-player. Later sequels added arena PvP; this one does not.
If you are unsure, the Steam demo is the review. An hour in Adonis tells you more than a store trailer. If dash, humor, and slime hunts still click, buy the full build when it unlocks on August 31, 2026. If they do not, no seal walkthrough will fix that.
What the restoration gets right
Identity. The team said they kept story, characters, class structure, equipment, skills, good-evil, hunger, weight, and day-night. That list matches what fans actually argue about in comment sections. PC work sits around the identity: keyboard and controller, redesigned HUD, damage numbers, equipment comparison, batch repair, quick save, audio sliders, Steam achievements, more languages.
The post-demo interview is the most reassuring document. Veterans asked for the dash afterimage. New players asked for UI help. The full version tries to serve both instead of modernizing the story into something unnamed. That is the correct instinct for a restoration.
Class fantasy still works. Assassin is fast and brittle. Paladin is a wall. Warrior is the honest middle. The tier list is a preference list, not a PvP ladder, because there is no PvP ladder.
What still feels like 2008
Quest structure is fetch, hunt, cave, letter, next cave. That was charming on a commute. On a PC it can feel like a checklist if you do not like talking to NPCs. Trap-heavy Greed is still a personality test. Alignment is a lean, not a cinematic dialogue wheel with eleven outcomes.
Store system requirements look aggressive for pixel art (Windows 10 64-bit, i5-12400, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1660 on both minimum and recommended). Treat them as the official list, then run the demo. The requirements tool copies the Steam box so you do not have to hunt the store on a phone.

Original versus Steam, in one paragraph
Original: award-winning phone RPG, 40-hour claim, hunger that reviewers asked to nerf, virtual d-pad. Steam: same adventure, better screens, better input, some QoL, same seals. It is closer to a carefully ported classic than to a 2026 remake that rewrites Regret. If you wanted a full 3D reboot, this is not that project. If you wanted ZENONIA 1 on a monitor, this is exactly that project.
How to get the good first save
Start Warrior or Paladin. Play good-leaning so English boss names match most videos. Use the getting started hour, then the walkthrough. Keep hunger in your head. Second save: Assassin evil if you still care. That is the reviewer’s route, not a mandate.
A Switch version is in development. It is not out, so this recommendation is for Steam Windows. Languages on Steam include English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Russian. This wiki covers English, Japanese, French, and German.
If the restoration lands, it will be because the dash feels right and the jokes still work. If it fails, it will be because hunger and fetch quests feel like a museum. The demo is how you find out which sentence is yours. Official channels for patches after August 31, 2026 sit on the updates hub.
