ZENONIA 1 Walkthrough
Regret's campaign from Ayles through the five seals to the Canyon of Despair.
This walkthrough is the campaign spine for ZENONIA 1 on Steam. It follows Regret from the prologue through the Town of Ayles, the Adonis region, the Cave of Deceit, and the five seals that define the original Gamevil adventure. Boss names and a few dungeons swap if you lean good or evil. The alignment guide explains the meter; this page tells you the order of rooms.
The Steam demo stops before Investigating the Cave of Deceit. Everything after that heading is full-game territory. If you are still in the demo, use the demo guide and come back.
The embedded video is a full evil-route story capture of the original campaign, useful as a visual index for seal order. Steam UI and balance differ; the geography of Deceit, Despise, Greed, Betrayal, and Shame does not.
Prologue and the Town of Ayles
A baby is left on a battlefield. Commander Pardon takes the child in and names him Regret. Years later a demon kills Pardon, and Regret leaves to learn why. The first playable town is Ayles: chores, slimes, shops, and the first hints that the world has a sense of humor. Clear the firewood-style fetch quests, buy food, repair, and do not overfill the bag. Those habits are documented in Getting Started and hunger and weight.
When Ayles is done, the road runs through Garlic Lake toward Adonis. This is still tutorial geography. If a fight feels unfair, you are probably hungry, overweight, or swinging a broken weapon — not underleveled by ten.
Adonis and the Cave of Deceit
Adonis is the first real region: more NPCs, the dragon-clan thread, and Sun, who becomes the companion veterans remember. Explore freely. The Steam demo is built around this map. Side requests here teach the quest-drop rule: special items stop appearing once the counter is full.
The Cave of Deceit is the first dungeon that feels like a seal. Inside you meet Parole and Langue, clear the first real trap-and-combat mix, and fight Pale, guardian of the Seal of Deceit. An early alignment fork sits in this chapter — around the first major moral choice after the cave’s story scenes. If you want the good ending, do not treat that fork as a joke option. If you want the evil ending, this is where the path starts to look different.
The five seals
After Deceit, the campaign becomes a chain of seals. Order matters because overworld gates and story letters unlock the next cave.
Seal of Deceit. Pale. First dungeon boss. Story dump about Regret’s father. See the bosses page for Pale’s pattern.
Seal of Despise. The guardian is Vicious if you are walking a good-leaning path, or Vague if you are walking evil. Same dungeon shell, different fight and different aftermath. If a guide names only Vicious, it is assuming the good route.
Seal of Greed. No traditional boss. Traps, patience, and inventory discipline. Players who mash dash into floor plates hate this chapter. Slow down. The map notes the trap rooms; the items page reminds you not to drink every potion the moment you feel nervous.
Seal of Betrayal. The Ghost of Ladon. This is the mythic turn: the demon god thread that Com2us still cites when they talk about restoring the first adventure. Expect a longer approach and a fight that punishes greedy Assassin dives. Paladin has an easier time here; Assassin has to play the dash.
Seal of Shame. Virulent on a good-leaning path, Lady Charity on an evil-leaning path. Another swapped boss. If your save does not match a video you are watching, check alignment before you assume you missed a door.
Letters, side roads, and Libra Oasis
Between seals the story uses letters, guild tests, and companion scenes (Sun learning about Regret’s father is the emotional beat most walkthroughs timestamp). There is a second-boss-style fight tied to a guild test that some players remember as “the letter.” Side content includes Libra Oasis requests and later companion errands. They are not required to open the Canyon of Despair, but they pad levels and gold. If you are hungry for 100 percent, run them before Shame rather than after the finale. Full optional list: side quests. Historical trophy-style errand sets (Ayles, oasis, Leo) are mapped on achievements — confirm Steam overlay names after launch.
Leo-style companion quests and oasis hunts are easy to miss if you only follow the seal icons. When an NPC with a unique portrait appears after a seal, talk twice. The map lists named fields; this walkthrough only flags the ones that gate story.
Canyon of Despair and endings
The last dungeon is the Canyon of Despair. The final sequence includes a fight players remember against a late boss often named in captures as the last stand of the route you picked. Endings split with alignment. The evil-route capture on this page is one full pass; a good-route pass swaps Shame’s guardian and the tone of the last scenes. Do not watch the last fifteen minutes of a route you want to play blind.
There is no party wipe screen that lets a friend join. ZENONIA 1 is a single-player close. After the credits, the useful wiki pages are review if you want a recommendation, builds if you want a second save with another class, and Steam launch for what the restoration still intends to patch.
Suggested level discipline (not a grind script)
Gamevil originally claimed about 40 hours including side quests. You do not need to hit the level cap before Deceit. You do need to keep gear in the current region’s rarity band, eat, and repair. If a seal boss two-shots you, check alignment-appropriate boss notes, then food, then whether your class skill bar is empty. Only then grind the previous field.
Class pages assume this route: Warrior for a first blind clear, Paladin if bosses keep clipping you, Assassin if you already know the dash.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for new and returning adventurers.
What is the seal order in ZENONIA 1?
Deceit, Despise, Greed, Betrayal, then Shame, followed by the Canyon of Despair. Greed has traps instead of a normal boss.
Do good and evil change the walkthrough?
Yes. Despise and Shame swap guardians, and the ending changes. Read alignment before the Cave of Deceit fork.
Where does the Steam demo stop?
Before Investigating the Cave of Deceit in Adonis. See the demo guide.
Is this walkthrough for the Steam version?
Yes, for structure. Steam HUD and QoL differ from 2008; room order matches the original campaign the restoration is based on.
